Camp Hair is Bad Hair

Biked about 15 miles Saturday, then showered and went to bed with a wet head, which is why I woke this morning with Really Insane Hair.

I should have taken my New Hat

Not bad, eh? Though I’m not crazy about the pointy-ness of the brim increases, and I’m not sure how well this yarn will block. I think I noted below that the pattern for this hat calls for two balls of Boho Colors. Two is Not Enough. I used every bit of three. That is why I have no flower: not enough yarn.

Another crochet project I finished recently is the Ladylike Lace Gloves, another one from the Happy Hooker book.

I made themto go with this

I love this coat. It is a vintage London Fog raincoat that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. I don’t know exactly what vintage it is, but the first time I wore it, I stuck my hand in the pocket and pulled out a receipt for brunch at the Country Club dated October 1983.

Unfortunately, Grandma was Petite and I am Not, and, although it says it is Average, the sleeves are just a bit too short for me. Every time I have put it on, I’ve thought I needed to knit some cuffs (I have at least three patterns I like) but I’ve never gotten around to it. Then I found the pattern for these gloves and, though I wasn’t sure fingerless gloves were my thing (I’m still not,) the pattern construction was so interesting I really wanted to make them.

My Wuthering Heights project is going to be crochet, too. Just a small project because I joined Knit the Classics in the middle of the month, then couldn’t figure out what I wanted to make. I just finished Wuthering Heights today. It is quite awful. I can’t say I’m looking forward to A Passage to India or Lolita, either. There were three books each on the ballot for July and August and both the books I least wanted to read were chosen. I tell myself I am expanding my horizons.

Did you crochet the boho hat? If so I can share a way that helps avoid polygon points :)I learned it the hard way.

Yes, I did crochet the Boho hat. I'd be interested to hear your technique on avoiding "points." I just followed the pattern instructions and I thought as I was doing it that it was going to be too pointed stacking the increases on top of each other.

Many other hat patterns I've used utilized different methods of increasing for the brim that worked out better.

But I figured this pattern was supposed to be sort of like a boonie hat and I didn't anticipate that I wouldn't like it.

Sounds like you know the trick then :)

Avoid increasing in the same section as then you are creating an oblique line. Obliques create polygons and you want more of a spiral effect.

Spirals are what cause curves instead of angles.
